Leasburg Dam State Park
Leesburg Dam on the Rio Grande and is just 25 minutes from Las Cruces There is a “cactus garden, several hiking trails, and opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and birding.”

Lower Mogollon Trail runs along the river and is a good place for birding.
